After "Warsaw Breakfast" – "Saska Kępa – small big city", 20th May
What happened
- people came (about 80) – different age, different generations; and they told their stories – it was definitely this kind of event when people talk more than so called storytellers;
- excellent food (but because of Pawel’s perfection it was easy to predict) with good stories
- new collection of wonders from Saskers – Saska Kepa people (non-existing beach near Vistula, magnolia tree at Nieklanska 29, Atenska street with singing nightingales, cafe Irena, mysterious neglected house with summer garden at Katowicka street and many others)
- quite a lot of new contacts – after the end some people came, asked about our contacts, left theirs, promised new stories; this is for me always good sign that performance/event "worked" – if people don’t leave in a hurry, but some of them stay and talk – to us, to other people they met for the first time
- real chance to organise STADION Olimpiada – Jarek announced the idea, it was taken enthusiastically; and among the audience there was a lady from SK local authorities – she is “haunted” by this idea and promises all possible forms of help
- we have now: collective design of t-shirt for Saska Kepa, photo-portraits of people from Saska Kepa, photo-project "Saska Kepa around", recipe book from restaurants of SK – as materials from school project (to be put on www) a lot of notes and drawings – wonders from people participating in "Sniadanie" and students from SK secondary school
- what to do with these wonders? We will continue with simple action "5 minutes in" – induvidually going to wonder places/objects/people with camera/diary/recorder/sketch-book…(free choice of medium) registering impressions/actions taking place there; combined with original drawings we have from people it will create map of SK; I am never sure to what extend I am able to express myself clearly; anyway – hope that examples of "developed wonders" will be available soon.
- news from yesterday (25 May): Jarek Kaczmarek and Gosia Litwinowicz had meeting with Magda Czerwosz (her garden for me is definitely one of Saska Kępa wonders), so together with her (and other Saskers, since she is a person knowing ALL people living in this part of Warsaw) we will work on 3 ideas:
1) Farewell to Stadion (proposed date: 27th June, draft version of what is going to happen will be posted when ready); 2) Saska Kępa Breakfast – project for autumn/winter days – meetings, discussions, food – series of monthly (?) meetings for SK people with their own programme 3) Saska Kępa Open Gardens: May/June/July 2008 or one intensive weekend in early summer 2008 – special space of SK these are “hidden gardens”, unvisible from the street, unaccesible. The idea is opening them (once) – as “thematic gardens”: garden of fairy-tales, philosophy, ghosts, films, sport etc. – and making private and intimate space open and hospitable.
